Introduction
Pharmaceutical Industry is one of the
Bangladesh’s Success stories. At present, it is the one of most technologically
advanced industry. This industry is a matter of great pride for Bangladesh. All
most 300 pharmaceutical companies are operating recently. Current market size
is almost 30,000 million taka per year. Only 3% of drugs are imported and rest
97% come from local companies. In Pharmaceutical Industry, positive development
has made it possible to export medicine in global market.
At present, Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical
is effectively exporting their products to 79 countries. The number is expected
to increase in coming years. Moreover, regular products like tablets and
capsules; HFA Inhalers; nasal sprays; IV infusions and other high tech products
are being exported from the country. Bangladesh’s pharmaceuticals products in
every way meet international standard.
Real growth of Pharma industry has
started in Bangladesh from 1982, when Drug Control and Ordinance was
circulated. The restriction of unequal import of drugs encouraged local
companies to increase their own production.
Skillful attitudes, knowledge, and
innovative ideas from professionals are the key reason for the success of
Pharma industry. After 1990s, some of the companies started producing insulin,
hormones, and cancer fighting drugs those were not previously produced in
Bangladesh. These companies are continuing to expand their business in global
market. The foremost Pharma companies are Square Pharma, Incepta Pharma,
Beximco Pharma, Opsonin and Renata pharmaceuticals.
